Once the whole crop was killed by the locust swarm and famine spread far and wide in the country. People left home and started wandering in search of food. Maharishi Upasti Chakrayana also left his house again and again and went out to beg for alms with his wife.
One day while wandering for alms, he reached a village of mahouts. A mahout was sitting there eating urad dal khichdi. Ushasti Chakrayana went to him and said – “I am hungry, give alms.”
